We'll we're off. Back to our reality...back to our lives...back to the cold. But after all we seen and experienced, can we ever go back to the way things were before? PS - Carrie decided to drive back....

Well...we're out and about on our last day...leaving for the airport in 6 short hours! I want to put some India in my pocket and open it on a cold wisconsin snowy day.

Early rise and out to the domestic airport for the beginng of our return home. First it's to Delhi, and late Sunday its off to the international for our trip back to Amsterdam. Everone is well, which is especially poignant considering which watched an ambulance take a canadian away from our hotel with classic 'I ate the wrong thing and drank the local water' symptoms. We saw some white boys filling their water bottles from a sidewalk handpump so they'll be visiting the local medical establishment soon also. It has been a great trip...for all of us and hopefully all those we have ministered to. Time for chai...

We are midday on our third and last day of teaching here in calcutta. Today we are spending the day in a distant inner city outreach church...a small room in the midst of a maze of houses seperated only by narrow walkways. Both men and womens teaching today.

KOLKATA (Calcutta)

We have begun work at our 5th and final ministry location in CALCUTTA. We'll be here teaching for several days...doing discipleship training and bible studies at Pastor Karunakar's church. Calcutta is a difficult environment...with extreme poverty and pollution, traffic alot like 'road warrior,' and severe overcrowding and homelessness. It's a place that cannot but remind a person just how blessed he is! How we can take it for granted! The team is well...albeit some colds and allergies. God is really teaching us alot as we seek His will and and plans for us here in India.

Well, after a 6 hour incredible drive through the mountains filled with tribal villages, we're back in visag safe and sound. We had dinner at Pastor raj's house and Tim addressed the 200 people at a christian conference before we departed. Orissa is 'in deep' and it was an 'experience' thats for sure! We're here for a day and then on to Calcutta for our discipleship conference there. Weather is still in our favor...sunny and warm...humid by the ocean.

Friday, January 20, 2012

Hey everyone...we are well here in koraput. We have met with our new pastor\contact here and will no doubt teach alittle today at his pastor's conference. This is a rough environment here...lots of tribal people and a mish-mash of tons of different languages. We are an EXTREME minority here. We will be heading back to visag tomarrow by jeeps. Hope everyone is good...we know you are praying. (hi rhonda!)

Well....we made it onto the the dark no less, and now we are headin' up into the mountains of Orissa for the next leg of the journey. Sunny and blue as usual...i have everything is good.

The bible school picked up the gang this morning in the 'short bus.' pleaae note that pastor tim was not in the picture. It's another seriously warm and sunny day. We're full of chai and anticipation of the day

...we'll have none of that in here!

Yo! We're out teaching a whole bunch of folks today at a church in Visag. The director of Vision Nationals has been a great blessing and resource...we'll be visiting the seminary campus and missions campus tomarrow. This seems to be a people with whom we can find a common purpose and foundation.
It's 'india hot' out there today. Had a black out during Ryans session. (maybe God was trying to tell us something?) The food at lunch made us sweat even more. THIS is India...

Greetings one and all!
We have moved to the next level in the 'missions trip Inception' by flying to Visag...which is a very long way from Delhi. Met some christians having a college retreat at a hostile by the ocean. Never saw a 'western' pale face all day until walking down a side street off of a side side street and there was a bunch of white college age people eating cake at a little outdoor cafe. Needless to say, they were as shocked as we were. Meeting with the director of Visions Nationals tonite...our host for the discipleship conference over the next two days. Found a 'real' indian restaurant down the road and we all ate food that ben says makes your 'face burn off'...we're stuffed on 3 $ worth of food each. (MMMMM...Curry chicken and garlic naan.) Almost had to throw down and rumble with some taxi drivers that we're trying to rip us off. But the bearded man made them afraid. Pray for us! Let the teaching begin...

We were out today scoping Pahar Ganj. Visited a large hindu temple....had to leave our cameras, call phones, and our shoes outside. There was a 'presence' inside there...glad I am on the right side. It was sad to see the people worshipping and offering flowers to a dead idol! Everyone is challenged in handling the overwhelming aspects of the traffic, the beggars, and the sheer number of people!
Suddenly when your faith is the minority to the tune of 1 1\2 % of the tend to sit up and pay attention...

Goodbye amsterdam...hello India?

By the time any of you read this we'll be up in the air and over the middle east countries, and on to india. It was an early departure from shelter this morning in the dark...windy and damp. We already felt like we were IN India when the airline calls the business class to board and everyone else to stay seated until their row was called, yet every single Indian in the entire plane stood in unison and in mass pushed forward to board. (line? What line?) ahhhh, yes...I remember now....and it begins. I wish I had more coffee.

Wednesday, January 11, 2012

It's early Tuesday eve here...we're wrapping up our service and printing out our boarding passes for our india flight tomarrow morning. Our time here at Shelter has been more that we ever anticipated. Pastor Tim cooked breakfast shift again today and Ryan will again be the 'late' shift in the cafe. We met today with the 'scarlet cord' organization...a group that ministers to the prostitutes here and helps them transition out of the business of prostitution. Everyone has been very busy working and will be wierd to now go to yet a THIRD country and adjust our thinking to a whole other environment!

We spent the day today working at SHELTER...the christian hostel in the heart of Amsterdam. Everyone has been incredible here, putting up with our endless questions and laughter. Tim worked the breakfast shift in the cafe making pancakes ordered in various languages, and Ryan is working right now on the evening shift with hamburgers as the evening meal. The ladies spent the day intensively cleaning the center's staff housing... as did sash, ben, jonah, and leslie over at Shelters 'jordan' location. They have bibles here in every language, as Amsterdam is the crossroads of the world. It was an incredibly full day! Seems like we have been here for a week, and we start the whole thing over again in the morning...

BEGINNINGS: hey all...our missions team has arrived safe and sound in, i mean AMSTERDAM. Got some serious jetlag and we have only had maybe 2 hours sleep in the last 33 hours...but sleep came easy last night! Everyone is working at SHELTER today...tim gets to work the breakfast shift in the hostels cafe\coffeehouse. I wish i knew something about that business...o well, i'll figure it out. 4 of the teams is at the other hostil location...they will work there all day too. It's chilly back home...but we're all well and the coffee is good.
